1930's Waterfall Dresser (Before & After)

Scott cringed when I won this at an auction last month.

He couldn't see past what is to what can be.

Luckily, I did.

Okay...

Honestly?

I didn't either, but the price was right so I bid.

And then so did someone else.

And then it became a competition.

So, I had to win.

LOL!

After some thinking on it, I decided to try my hand at an Annie Sloan technique that involves mixing two colors of paint.

In this case...

Pure White and Coco

It gave the piece a look of weathered wood.

The original hardware was given a fresh coat of
Emperor's Silk to make them pop.

I added a thick jute twine as an accent
to the top, bottom, and sides.

It's a nod to my nautical east coast roots.

But just country enough to work in the midwest.

I think it's very Prairie Patina.

And I think I kind of like it.

Yeah.

I think I do.

How about you?

  3. I've always stayed away from Waterfall furniture because it is so difficult to transform - but you just proved me wrong. Love the pop of red!! Great job!! :)

  5. As someone who's not into waterfall style, I would have passed on bidding. And I wouldn't have had the vision to transform it as you did. You did well, grasshopper!

  6. That turned out great. I have a waterfall dresser in my husband's garage that he uses for tool storage. I got it years ago and never fell in love with it. Maybe I'll steal it back and paint it up now!
