Angelic Christmas Treats

What's a mom to do?

You know, when her daughter begs,
"Please, Mom?  Can you make me cool birthday treats?"

"Can I just do cupcakes?"

"Moooooommm...  Nobody does cupcakes anymore!"

*sigh*

Cool treats it is.

Special thanks goes out to the crafty mom who created "Robot" birthday treats in October and the creative mom who made the "Mayflower" birthday treats in November.

You just raised the bar for the rest of us.

Gee...

Thanks.

;)

Nights of pinterest perusing ensued.

The treats had to be Christmas themed since it's December.

"How about cookie wreaths, Eva?"

I got a dead pan stare.

"Oooookay then.  Well, how about Christmas tree cookies?"

Same look.

"What about cupcakes that look like Christmas trees?"

Evidently that was even worse.

Then I came across this...

Source
"Ooooooo!  Eva!  What about these?"

"But it's supposed to be Christmas, Mom."

At that point, after two hours
of internet/Pinterest searching a few nights in a row,
I gave up.

I told her I had to take a break.

I mean, this was in October.  I had time, right?

And then on Monday...

"Mom, what are you going to do for my birthday treats?"

Uhhhhhhhhh....

Better think fast, Laura.

"Well, remember those butterflies?"

"But Mom, that's not Christmas."

"Ummmm..."

She's staring me down.

I can't escape.

Think faster.

(Lightbulb moment - DING!)

"What if I made them kind of like that,
but made them into angels?"

Hmmm...  She looks intrigued.

Might I be onto something?

"And  what if I filled the wings
with marshmallows and Hersey kisses?  Would that work?"

"How are you going to make them angels?"

"Oh ye of little faith, child.  Trust me."

Lo and behold, I pinterested it
(that would be like "googling it")
and I couldn't find a single one.

Dare I say I actually had an original thought?

Holy cow!

I didn't think it was possible!

Sooooooo....

A trip to Hobby Lobby and Walmart later...

Here's what you need to make your daughter
her very own Christmas treats.

You know...

For that school party you signed up to donate to
when you were feeling motivated at the beginning of the year.

What You Need:

(Makes Approximately 20 Treats)

Large bag of Kraft Mini Marshmallows

2 One Pound bags of Hersey Kisses

Box of Sandwich Bags

2 pieces of White Felt

Coffee Filters (Optional)

Silver Pipe Cleaners

Doll Hair (Optional)

Sharpie Pens

Glue Gun

Glue Sticks

How To Do It:

1.  Draw an angel's robe on card stock paper
and trace your template onto the white felt.

2.  Have fun cutting out all twenty of those tiny robes.

Feel free to snack on the kisses during this process.
With two bags, there's a built-in snacking contingency plan.

;)

3.  Cut your coffee filters in half.

4.  Cut out the round center
and cut your halves into small sections of "ruffle".

5.  Glue on the "ruffle".

6.  Glue on the hair.

7.  Draw on the face with Sharpie Markers.

(I actually really got into this part.  I made different expressions.
A couple even have freckles.  LOL!)

8.  Glue on the robe.

9.  Glue on the halo by running a bead of glue
down the back of the clothespin
and glueing down the "tail" of the halo.

Please excuse the Sharpie Marker on my un-manicured fingernails.
(One pipe cleaner makes 3 halos.)

10.  Fill your sandwich bag with a handful of marshmallows
 and 10 Hersey kisses.
Divide into equal halves on each side of the bag
and squeeze most of the air out.

11.  Pinch the center of the bag together.

12.  Clip the clothes pin on the pinched center.

13.  Add the angel to your growing choir.

Too cute!

And...

The kiddos can take them home and clip them to their tree as a Christmas ornament.

I think they turned out pretty good
for thinking off the top of my head!

Quick recap:

But more importantly, Eva think they're awesome.

So, I'm still  a "Cool Mom" in her eyes for a little while longer.

Better take that while I can still get it!

Dream Big,
