Winter Prairie Scenes

It was a frigid 1* with fog this morning in Iowa.

Anyone who lives out in the Midwest knows what fog
combined with below freezing temperatures causes...

Hoar Frost.

At it is one of the most beautiful sites I've ever seen.

Since I had never even heard of it before we moved out here,
I thought I would bundle up this morning and
share some pictures with you.

{Because y'all all know that even after 7 years of living here,
my southern blood is far too thin to stand cold air!  LOL!}

Before the fog completely burned off...

Our Lilac Bush in the front yard...

A close up of all the teeny-tiny ice crystals:

And closer...

An evergreen bough:

Even weeds look pretty LOL:

A fence row :

Looking south from my in-law's home:

Our home even looks half way decent sitting up on the hill:

I love how it just makes everything look so bright and fresh!

And this is what happens when the sun begins to hit the branches...

Everything on the east side begins to melt and drop away.

So beautiful!

While the rest of y'all are getting ready for spring,
out here in the midwest we're still dealing with freezing temps.

But at least I can still see the beauty in it.

{Gotta find the bright side of freezing my rear end off somehow!  LOL!)

  1. Very pretty!! We've gotten that kind of fog here in Ohio too. We just had a winter storm...hope it was Winter's last blast and that Spring is just right around the corner.

  3. I've only seen this once....an unusually cold winter in the 1970's in NJ......we were just married and didn't even own a camera...I remember our birch tree being covered and HOW pretty it was....damaging though....but pretty!

  4. Hi I love what you did with your daughters room. Can you tell me what you did with the floor? How did you prepare it? What type of paint did you use? What type of finish?
    Thank you
