How Now Brown Cow

Top of the day to ya, Ladies!

It's a lovely Fall morning here in Iowa.

Crisp temps, bright sunshine...

Makes me want to go pick a pumpkin or something.

;)

When I revealed the
before and after of my oak pedestal table yesterday,
a few people commented on the cow sign in the background.

Isn't it cute?

I threw it together in less than a couple of hours.

And for FREE!

Good deal!

Unfortunately, I didn't take pics of the process.

Whoops!

I didn't think anyone would notice it.

LOL!

But really, it was a simple process.

The board is actually a leaf from an oak table
that was too water damaged to do anything with.

Two coats of MMSMP "Lucketts Green"
- although I think the surface was too porous, so it didn't distress.

I freezer paper transferred a silhouette of a cow
from the internet onto the center of the board
- but because the word "Brown" is longer than "How" it looks off center
- and that kind of bugs me a bit A LOT.

;)

Then I just printed out the letters on regular printer paper,
cut them out with an X-acto knife,
and stenciled them on with "Burnt Umber"  folkArt acrylic paint.

It's time like this that I really wish I had a Silhouette or Cricut!

And painted over the cow with the acrylic too.

Next, because I'm definitely not an artist, I typed the words into iPages, added shadow to the text, and then copied where the shadow needed to be.

The shadow is in "Vintage White" folkArt Acrylic.

Distressed lightly.

DONE.

I like it with my blue Ball/Atlas jar collection.

:)

For now, it's just sitting on top of a buffet mirror,
but I'll hang it...

Somewhere.

Eventually.

;)

I think it's pretty cute!

How Now Brown Cow.

Dream Big,

  1. It is very cute! And I have tried to cut out with the X-acto knife, I don't have the patience and the letters turn out really bad! I really wish I had the fancy die cut machine too!

  3. I like how that one word is longer. Because if it looked completely perfect, it would look like it came from China or something. Much better to look homemade and lovingly made as it is.
