if you can't use it for personal stuff every now and again?
So... Today I'm gonna do just that.
:)
This weekend, my friends, is THE weekend.
It's the weekend that every boy in our wrestling club works for
every single day of the year.
It's what they think about.
It's what they dream about.
It's what they sweat for.
It's why they get up every Saturday or Sunday morning
(and sometimes BOTH and Friday nights too!)
and while their friends are sleeping in,
(and sometimes BOTH and Friday nights too!)
and while their friends are sleeping in,
they're in the car driving to a hot, crowded gym to wrestle.
They do it because they love it.
And they do it for the win.
Iowa AAU Kids State Championships
in Des Moines, Iowa.
This weekend, each boy in our club who qualified at districts
3 weeks ago, will go up against the best of the best in
Iowa Youth Wrestling.
8 Districts.
32 Wrestlers.
Up for Grabs: 8 Places on the podium
And let's not forget the bragging rights.
Today, I just wanted to shout out to all these boys
who have worked so hard all year to come to this place in time.
I am so proud of all of them.
Win... Lose... Whatever.
You made it to Des Moines.
As a Mom of two qualifiers, I am nervous.
As Scott whispered in my ear last night
while I was tossing and turning,
"36 hours, 5 minutes."
Yeah, he knows how I'm feeling.
Sick to my stomach and a lot nervous.
For all of our boys.
Not just my own.
Because there is one thing about our wrestling club...
They're family.
You rejoice when they rejoice.
You cry when they cry.
And then there's me,
who cries before the boys even take the mat.
LOL!
It's a big stage for these little men.
I think I'm nervous enough for all of them.
So this morning, while it's quiet...
I offer up a prayer for each and every boy in our club....

by making it to this big stage with the bright lights.
And I pray that they know how proud we all are of them.
Now Go Hawks, wrestle tough... We're cheering you on!

What a great wrestling post! My nephew wrestles and it is hard for me to watch--I'm always afraid someone is going to get hurt. Then I want to slap some of the parents who aren't supportive of their kids and yell at them when they don't do well. You seem to be very supportive--and I think that's great! Your photos are really good. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, this is all just to exciting!!! I feel like I am right in the stands with you, CHEERING for all those hard working boys who have made it this far. That in itself is quite the accomplishment. I wish them all the best and can't wait to see the rest of the pictures and those who will take their place on the stand.
ReplyDeleteHave fun and enjoy!!

I am so glad I found your blog.... I lived in Clive for 10 years and have since moved to Chicago. Anyway, I remember my middle son wrestling his freshman year for West Des Moines and Oh! sitting on the sidelines makes you go from one emotion to another, doesn't it? I agree with you... you pray that everyone is safe from injury and enjoys some victory along with the spoils. Thanks so much for sharing and I would to have you visit my blog when you get a chance. I always love meeting new friends! Especially someone from Iowa!
