I love owls.
But I can't seem to ever find any at our local thrift.
And I refuse to spend an outrageous amount at stores just because they have finally realized that owls are the new thing.
So, I've tried to find ways to incorporate them in my decor in the easiest way I know... Pillows.
I'm just not quite ready to let go of the aqua in my living room, even though I know everyone else is moving toward the warm tones of fall.
And I probably won't ever put away my collection of
blue Ball jars.
Okay... Back to the owls.
I googled "Owls+ Black + White+ Free + Clip Art"
and I found this cutie patootie.
Isnt' he cute???
Using the Freezer Paper Transfer Method, you can find HERE,
I transferred him onto a long piece of canvas fabric.
I mean, looooooong.
Big enough to have one owl for each member of our family,
with each person's name underneath it.
That's a huge piece of canvas!
Then I transferred "The Heise Family" underneath the owls.
Unfortunately, I didn't measure,
so it's a wee bit too far to the right, but whatever.
As I'm finding out, it's kind of a pain to move every time you want to sit down, but at least it looks good when the living room is clean and the kids aren't home.
LOL!
And I probably could've gone a little bit wider on the pillow body because either the owls show nicely or our family name shows nicely.
Well, oh well on that too.
Live and learn.
Actually, I'm just trying to convince my daughter and her husband that they should do the baby's room in owls, so I have an excuse to make more cool owl stuff.
I mean, there's only so many owls you can have in a living room.
But a baby's room?
Blankets...
Pillows...
Wall Hangings...
Oooooo! An itty bitty owl mobile!
As you can see, I'm taking the whole "Grandma" at 36 thing, in stride.
But, as young as I was when I had her,
I guess I should have expected it.
;)
Until sometime around May 30, I'm going to be thinking up a gazillion things to make for our new little one.
Oh! An owl onesie!
See?
The possibilities are endless!
LOL!
Until I convince her, I may just keep making more stuff for me.
HA!

It turned out so cute..I love owls too, but I also love chickens, but I have to keep myself in check so I don't become the crazy chicken lady...(my sister says its too late....:)) I have 3 chickens in my kitchen and thats all I allow myself. LOL

I LOVE your pillow!! The whole owl thing is lots of fun and I really love that it's becoming so popular. My sister did an owl nursery for my niece and it's the cutest thing! You are very young to be a Grandma. What an exciting time for you and your family!! :) ~ Jamie

WOW, your owl stuff is AWESOME! Would you be mad if I told you I find owls EVERYWHERE in our thrift stores? I have a stash of about 8 of them right now and I was just thinking I should do a post on them soon..... Maybe I should give them to my sweet friend Laura. And Grandma at 36? Think of it this way - you can do SO MUCH MORE with your grandkids, AND you'll probably be around to play with your great, great grandkids!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is having a baby in January. She took her 8 year old daughter with her to Target one day, and 'they' got signed up on the baby registry. EVERYTHING they picked was OWL related...I love it. She got so many OWL things at her last shower....the nursery will be adorable. So I'm loving your Owl pillow...might just have to try one myself.
ReplyDeleteLove your ideas! Your excitement is contagious! :)
